Getting started
What is a baseline, and what is a what-if?
Your baseline illustrates your current path using the household information and assumptions you enter. A what-if changes something about that path, such as retirement timing, part-time work, spending or a purchase. Compare the two to explore the effect of the change.
Do I need exact figures or to connect my bank accounts?
Reasonable estimates are fine to get started. Use household totals and refine them when needed. Money Rehearsal does not connect to your bank or investment accounts, and you do not need to enter account numbers.
Where can I find help while entering information?
Tap the information symbol beside an input or section in the app for a short explanation. Use the monthly or yearly period shown beside the field, and check the amount before calculating.
Entering your information
Should employment income be before or after taxes?
Enter employment earnings before income taxes, using the monthly or yearly period selected in the app. Social Security is entered separately. For household fields, use the household total.
What counts as saving?
Include contributions to retirement accounts and investments, plus money accumulating in checking, savings or money-market accounts. Count paycheck retirement contributions once. Moving money between your own accounts is not new saving.
How is my spending estimated?
The starting estimate is employment income minus estimated income taxes minus saving. Taxes are estimated on income before subtracting saving. Review the spending amount and enter your own monthly estimate if it does not fit your household.
What should I include if I enter my own monthly spending?
Include regular living costs and an allowance for irregular expenses. Exclude income taxes and saving already counted elsewhere. For an expense you add separately as a what-if, check that you have not also included the same cost in your regular spending.
Where do cash, investments and retirement accounts go?
Enter checking, savings and money-market balances as cash. Taxable investments are investments outside retirement accounts, excluding cash already entered. Use the pretax category for traditional IRA, pretax 401(k), 403(b) and similar balances, and the Roth category for Roth IRA and Roth workplace balances. Count each balance once.
Are retirement age and Social Security claiming age the same?
No. Retirement age describes when employment stops; Social Security claiming age describes when benefits begin. You can explore them separately. Any benefit estimate in the app is a rough estimate; use your official Social Security statement when available.
Understanding results
What does “today’s dollars” mean?
Amounts are shown in terms of today’s purchasing power, so you can compare future spending and balances with amounts that feel familiar now. A future balance expressed this way is different from the number of dollars that might appear on a future account statement.
When should I revisit my rehearsal?
Revisit your rehearsal at least once a year, or whenever your circumstances change significantly—for better or worse. Each update gives you a fresh starting point.
You can enter updated household totals and explore again for free. Saving, reopening and the guided balance-update feature require Essentials or Plus.
Are the results predictions or financial advice?
Results are illustrations based on your inputs and assumptions. Actual returns, taxes, inflation and life events will differ. Use the comparison to explore possibilities. Money Rehearsal does not provide investment, tax, legal or insurance advice or recommend which decision you should make.
What should I check if a result looks surprising?
Check for an extra or missing zero, the monthly or yearly period, income before taxes, saving counted twice, and the timing and amount of each change. Recalculate after correcting an input. If the app displays an error or a calculation still appears inconsistent, contact support with the steps you took and any error reference; do not send your financial details.
Saving & reports
Does calculating save my rehearsal?
Calculating shows the results. To keep a rehearsal, choose Save rehearsal and wait for the success message before leaving or signing out. Saving and reopening rehearsals require a plan that includes those features.
How do I reopen a rehearsal or find its PDF?
Sign in with the same email address you used when saving. Open Saved Scenarios; your list loads immediately. Use Refresh list to reload it if needed. Find your rehearsal and choose View report, Open PDF or Share PDF. On Android, Open PDF uses an available PDF viewer and Share PDF opens the device’s sharing choices. Browser download options are also available. Keep an updated PDF after making and saving changes.
What if a rehearsal will not save or a report will not open?
Check your internet connection and the message shown in the app. If saving fails, keep the page open and use the retry option before leaving. For a PDF, check your browser or device’s Downloads or Files location. If the problem continues, note the error reference, device and browser and contact support. Do not make another purchase to resolve an access problem.
Account & subscriptions
What if my sign-in code does not arrive or work?
Check the email spelling and your spam folder, then request a fresh code. Use the newest message. Never share your code with anyone, including support. If you still cannot sign in, contact support with the error reference, if one appears.
Why are my saved rehearsals or paid features missing?
Check that you signed in with the same email address used before, including any +suffix. Check the plan shown in your account. If access still looks wrong, contact support rather than purchasing again. When native store purchases become available, Restore purchases will recheck eligible store purchases.
How do I cancel renewal or request a refund?
For a web subscription, use the Manage subscription link in your purchase email. For purchases through Apple or Google, once available, manage renewal and request refunds through the store account used to purchase. If you have trouble, contact support. See the terms and refund policy for details.
Privacy & your data
Can I delete my account without a paid plan?
Yes. Follow the account and saved-data deletion instructions. You do not need a paid plan or an explanation. Cancel subscription renewal separately; deleting an account does not cancel a subscription.
How can I keep my own copy of my information?
If your plan includes reports, download a current PDF after saving changes and keep it somewhere private. Its input reference can help you manually re-enter information if needed; it is not an automatic restore file. Backups and recovery are not guaranteed. Read the Privacy Notice for details.
